"Some of my men take to beating the homeless."
Damon's facial expression remained the same as before, the evil smile still there, though his eyes that were hidden moved to the side past David to see that the one person who truly mattered was still standing there.
"I found it to be a dry sport. I rather came after you for my own reasons."
Damon's eyes returned to the man, and as before his facial expression remained the same. That statement was all that he was looking for.
"Your injury just made it all the more enjoyable. I was happy to hurt you more."
After a second passed, Damon saw Margot walking toward them and pass right by David to stand at his own side. Damon opened his arms and allowed her to wrap hers around him while he wrapped his left arm around hers, being sure to keep the pebble hidden from both of them and also to be sure not to spill the glass of wine.
"There you are."
"Here I am," Damon responded with a smile and kissed her on the cheek when she looked at David. He then returned his own gaze to David to see the demeanor become disappointed and angered.
"'Ello Margot. Are we feeling better now?"
Damon's eyebrow rose in question.
"What are you talking about. I've been fine. But if you mean when you carried me against my will to one of the back rooms, then yes, I think I've recovered quite well."
Damon blinked a couple times as he looked at Margot again. Oh really? he thought silently and very slyly. He turned once more to David with his evil smile still placed upon his face. Is that so?
The pebble inside of Damon's left hand dissolved into a small puff of smoke before disappearing completely, transporting itself into David's mouth just over his windpipe.

"Eh...ck." What was that in his throat? David felt something hard and round inside his mouth and then as he breathed in too quicky, on its way down to his lungs. It blocked his airway, causing his to choke, coughing spasmically as she attempted to release the invader from his throat.
Margot look at Damon, who seemed to be enjoying this. She could understand why, but she still knew that she couldn't bare to see her old friend die. However, she was locked in Damon's arms. Not that he was holding her back, she just didn't want to let him go. If she had to choose between the two, there was no question.
"David?" She questioned. "What..." She realized he was choking.
David held his neck. Margot knew exactly what to do. Her mother was a nurse after all, but Margot didn't move from her spot. Instead, she watched as her friend slowly lost vital amounts of oxygen. If he died right before her, she wasn't sure if she'd have minded.
"Margghhhh." He hiss, trying to say Margot. He needed her help, but she wasn't moving. Was she too scared? Or did she not care about him?

"Eh...ck"
When he heard the noise, he knew for certain that his plan worked. There wasn't any doubt, he simply needed the cue.
"David? What.."
A soft sigh came from Damon's lips as he watched the policeman grab his own neck as a sign to show that he was choking. "Now see," the young magician began, "where I'm from, things like that wouldn't happen. We treat women with respect." He squeezed Margot's side lightly and then smoothly slid from her grasp to take one step toward David. "Also, we don't simply go around beating injured and homeless people. If anything, we help them."
Margghhhh."
The hiss came nicely, but Damon ignored it as he took another step toward the man. The glass in his hand stayed balanced perfectly and he passed it over from his right to his left. "Perhaps I could teach you a lesson on these facts. Whenever someone is injured, you shouldn't just sit there and watch or come over and beat them," he said sadistically as he watched the choking man. Balling his free hand into a fist, he sent it flying into the man's lower chest, just below the ribcage, with more than enough force to send the pebble flying from his mouth.
"You should help them."

Margot watched the whole thing play out without a sound. She felt no pity for David, and she was beginning to understand what Damon was telling her old friend. She winced slightly as her love punched David to get the pebble out. He had a good point, but she was disappointed that he hadn't let him choke. It would be one less thing for Margot worry about. She missed when her friend hadn't been such a jerk.
David wasn't really listening to Damon as he spoke. He was too busy trying to get the pebble out. Finally, something slammed right into his torso and the small object exited his mouth. How it had gotten in there in first place was mystery to him. Had it not been so hard, he might have thought it was a bug.
"You should help anyone who isn't in your way." David said. He looked at Margot, now parted from Damon and grabbed her arm, pulling her in his direction.
"I'm sorry for what I had to do Mr. Walker. But you were simply in my way."
How was he acting like this in front of her? Margot was still somewhat confused. She looked at Damon while trying to get David to let go of her. After all of this, she simply wanted to scream at the top of her lungs.

"You should help anyone who isn't in your way."
A sigh escaped Damon's lips again. It seemed that his point still hadn't gone through the fool's thick skull. He saw David grab Margot's arm and finally, the smile vanished from Damon's lips.
"I'm sorry for what I had to do Mr. Walker. But you were simply in my way."
"Then I'm sorry for what I must do," Damon said in a much more harsh tone than he had spoken all evening. He took another step toward David and reached out to touch him. Instantly the policeman vanished in a cloud of smoke, leaving Margot free of the man's clutches. Swiftly, Damon threw his free hand behind him and allowed David to reappear somewhere a mile away from the Theater.
Smoothly, he moved the hand around Margot's waste as he felt the teleportation was complete. He smiled at her in attempt to be comforting and asked, "Now that that matter is out of the way, how are you this evening?"

With his hand around her waist, she watched, amazed. She still was gripping that he had the ability to do such things. He didn't do it often around her, and because of that, she was left bewildered by his actions.
"I am fine, surprisingly." She told him. Margot looked up at the man she had been madly in love with for the past few months and gave him a warm, welcoming smile. "How are you? I was looking for you earlier, but I guess you hadn't come to the party yet."
Margot was beginning to sober up as David found himself a mile away and disoriented. He felt a head ache come on and wondered if the last few minutes had really happened. Maybe he was delirious? Was he drunk?
She didn't want to go in yet, even though she knew her father was looking for her. Instead, she rested in Damon's arms and leaned against him, burying her face against his chest. It was all she needed to know that the night wasn't completely hopeless. What she had seen was puzzling. The scream of the man and the visions of the vat of chemicals haunted her. Did Damon kow what was happening down there?

He rested his chin on her head as he held her tightly to him. It seemed like she was disturbed by something. Not by her voice, not even by her actions, for he was used to her wanting to be close to him, but there was just a feeling that something was wrong. "I am well," he responded to her question after a moment. "I was hiding away in the theater, as usual." His hands smoothly and gently rubbed her back as he hugged her. Thinking of the previous conversation he had held with Margot's father, a soft sigh escaped silently through his nose. There was little reason to stay any longer, so he began to think of where he would take Margot after the next show. Perhaps to an island, a paradise island somewhere far away from there...

There was something about Damon that Margot loved unconditionally. No matter what he was or what he did, she needed him just the same. Nothing he could do would keep her from loving him. In essence, she believed the sun shined out his ass.
She pulled her head out from under his chin, and she leaned up, placing her lip gently over his with a soft kiss. David and Damon were nothing alike in any way shape or form. David had been her best friend for many years and she had to admit that at one time, she had loved him like she loved Damon. However, those times had changed and so had David. He was no longer the kind young gentleman she had grown up with, and something about kissing the man before her made her whole body feel like it was on fire.
"If you didn't love performing so much, I think I'd have to burn that theater down just to get a look at you now and then." She grinned. "But I guess it's worth it anyway."
She gave him another kiss, letting her fingers entangle in his hair a bit. She thought of how badly her father wanted her to marry. How badly David didn't. It didn't matter whether she had a ring on or not when she was with Damon. She'd like in sin forever just to be with him.
"I'm sorry for David." She told him. "He much different than I had thought."

"If you didn't love performing so much, I think I'd have to burn that theater down just to get a look at you now and then."
Damon laughed quietly at her comment, and subconsciously he knew it to be true even if he didn't admit it all the time.
"But I guess it's worth it anyway."
She gave him another kiss and he felt her fingers entangle themselves into his thick black hair. He heard the door open as she lightly broke from the kiss, though didn't look to see who it was, nor did he care.
"I'm sorry for David. He's much different than I had thought."
Passing behind her, Damon saw a couple of guests walk away, one of which had glanced at them, though he only glanced in their direction for a second before looking back at Margot. "Everyone changes," he said to her. "Sometimes they become better, and other times they don't."
The only reason he didn't want to insult David behind his back was because he knew that the man used to be friends with Margot and the only reason that he was at odds with him was because of the feelings he had for the precious gem he was holding. He only hoped that David was smarter than what he had seen thus far, because if not, the police force of Paris would soon become one short of their squad. Much sooner than they would have planned for.
